المجسطي ليس كتاب تاريخ. هو أول نظرية كاملة فسّرت السماء بدقة كافية للتنبؤ، وقد صمدت أربعة عشر قرناً قبل أن تأتي مفاهيم كوبرنيكوس وكبلر ونيوتن. لكن قراءته من غير محاكاة كقراءة كتاب الموسيقى دون سماعها.
